It saves you money from a reduced premium, typically a $1000 deductible, as opposed to a $500 deductible will save you about $75 a year. The higher the deductible, the lower the premium. It also keeps you from being tempted to put in small claims that can put your insurability at risk. Many insurance companies will non-renew a policy after a few claims. Save your insurance claims for things you can’t afford to handle on your own. For example, a kitchen fire or water damage from a broken pipe.</p>
